Freeborn Dysphagia Associates, LLC, a Professional Limited Liability Corporation (LLC), was established in February of 2018 and is an allied health service delivery company providing on-site, contract transnasal fiber-endoscopic assessments (FEES) and consultative services to residents/patients in healthcare facilities, hospitals, and other medical settings, suspected of having feeding and swallowing difficulties.
Services are provided by an FDA-employed Speech-Language Pathologist, specially-trained, nationally-certified, and state-licensed as a Speech-Language Pathologist and endoscopist. Freeborn Dysphagia Associates, LLC, is a service-delivery business providing professional, transnasal endoscopic assessments (FEES) onsite, in the facility, at bedside and in the patient/resident’s natural environment. There is no need to disrupt your patient or add extra stress to your patient, other allied staff, or remove a patient from the facility to get quality instrumental swallowing evaluations.
Licensed, specialty-trained and nationally-certified Speech-Language Pathologists travel to contract medical facilities in throughout the state of Oklahoma to administer the endoscopic assessment procedure with the request of a licensed speech pathologist and a physician’s order. Assessment results provide physicians and other care providers with definitive evidence of swallowing impairment, swallowing characteristic defined by an evidenced based nominal rating scale, and its severity. Recommendations are provided for administering hydration, oral feeding and/or feeding rehabilitation for your patient/resident.
Policies are in place following CDC guidelines and are available upon request.
Kristina (Kriss) Freeborn has been a Speech and Language Pathologist for 9-1/2 years. She graduated from California State University, Fresno in 2010, with a Master’s degree in Communicative Disorders and Deaf Studies– Speech and Language Pathology Option. Kriss Freeborn has taken several advanced education courses and skilled trainings in FEES, Dysphagia, Vital Stim, SPEAK Out! and AAC - Augmentative Alternative Communication, Aphasia, and Special Needs populations.
Kriss started in her field working, working as an emergency credentialed SLP, while attending school in California with various age groups ranging from four years to end of life. Working for a large county run program with Special Education (Autism, TBI, Special Needs), skilled nursing, in/out-patient rehab, acute and sub-acute care, and the intensive care unit advanced her knowledge and skills. While working for schools during the day Kriss eventually retired from the school setting and pursued and honed her career to work in the medical setting with an advanced focus on dysphagia.
Other accomplishments include expanding the speech pathology program for a community hospital in the southern region of Oklahoma and implementing a FEES (Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow) program in 2017, allowing the hospital to serve at the highest level of rehabilitation for speech pathology.
At the start of 2018, she decided to offer mobile swallow studies with flexible endoscopy (FEES) allowing skilled nursing and hospitals the opportunity to have cutting edge technology in FEES directly at the bedside. Freeborn Dysphagia Associates, LLC. was founded in the state of Oklahoma to offer high level medical services with quality and compassion to all patients/residents who need an instrumental swallow study. Her mission is to give a clear and concise picture of a person’s swallowing disorder, assist in educating others on swallowing disorders, provide quality evaluations and assist speech and language pathologists serving patients with a report that will benefit the patient and treating speech pathologist with a precise Plan of Care.
